Students will be introduced to Physics at a rigorous, but approachable, level. We will cover basic Mechanics, basic Electricity and Magnetism, and some Sound and Light, all at the honors high school level. Students who work hard and complete the course will be ready for AP or college-level Physics. Classtime will be spent running labs and doing problem solving. Solid algebra skills are a prerequisite! 8-10th grade, class meets two days a week.

Time moving at different rates! Space bending and contracting! What does E = mc2 really mean? What is "spacetime"? Some of the craziest results of modern Physics are very approachable to students at the high school level. We’ll explore the basics of Special and some General Relativity and take a look at some of their verified real-world effects! 3rd-5th Grade - In this fun and hands-on math class, kids will learn new math skills and put them to use in real-life projects! For example, they may team up to plan a dream vacation, figure out measurements for cooking, or even design a garden. The focus is on learning by doing, so there won’t be much homework—just a little practice now and then to help new skills stick. AP Environmental Science is a college-level environmental science course. This course is taught as a traditional science course, incorporating laboratory activities, virtual activities, short-term projects, long-term studies, and field investigations. While not required, students will find it beneficial if they have already taken high-school biology and chemistry prior to this class. Students should expect to spend 6-10 hours a week outside of class doing assigned readings, assigned projects, watching videos, lab work, and studying for the AP exam. Grades are provided for this course in addition to the AP exam score. This is a college-level class. This course will be taught using SaxonMath 8/7 (required text – 3 book set). Students will have weekly chapter reading to prepare for class. Chapters will be reviewed and math concepts taught in class and students will have problem sets and fact practice assigned weekly. There is so much more (and more interesting) math outside of the normal high school curriculum, and a lot of it is very accessible with only some basic algebra and problem solving skills!  We’ll explore things like probability, number sense, and statistics through fun, non-intuitive problems.  There are no algorithms and there is no memorization, but there is a lot of brain-bending problem solving!  8-10th grade, class meets once a week.

Join the Science Bowl Club, where middle and high school students come together to explore the exciting world of science through trivia and competition! The National Science Bowl® (NSB) is a highly competitive event that challenges teams of students to solve technical problems and answer questions across all branches of science and math. Our club will hold weekly practice sessions where students can engage in a fun, fast-paced, buzzer-style trivia game, honing their knowledge and skills in a supportive environment. This club is open to all middle and high school students interested in answering and learning challenging science trivia, regardless of their experience level. However, official Science Bowl practice sessions will continue to take place at AAH Science Team on Fridays, and the teams AAH takes to the regional competition will be made up of members of the AAH Science Team. So if you’re interested in competing at the regional contest, you’ll need to also join the AAH Science Team. This club is just a dedicated bonus weekly practice time for students who are excited to get better at Science Bowl. This club will support the level of engagement of its members. If students are really into improving their performance, there will be optional weekly homework to research questions missed during the quiz sessions. Otherwise no homework will be assigned, and no grades will be given.
